- Smoother meshing, lower noise during idling, less heat build-up for non-stop operation.
- Higher torque capacity within the same gearbox envelope, more compact gearbox design.
Disadvantages
- Generates axial thrust force. The thrust force fluctuates back and forth under periodic shearing impact. Requires paired angular contact ball bearings to withstand bidirectional axial load. Higher bearing cost. Once bearings wear out, gears shift axially, causing uneven load and rapid gear failure.
- Demands higher assembly precision: strict control over helix angle and bearing preload.
- Vulnerable to dust and water ingress. Damaged seals will quickly destroy bearings and gears.
